In line with NEPAD's objectives
to promote access for African food and agricultural products, particularly
processed products, and to meet international markets by improving
quality to meet the standards required by those markets, the Group
is supporting research in the areas of high-yield crops and durable
preservation and storage methods.
Floriculture
Using state-of-the-art hydro-ponic technology, the Group has invested
in a 12-hectare rose growing project with the aim of increasing the
price per stem and improving quality through better grading. The Group
has excellent contacts in the major export market of the Netherlands
and is sending technicians there for training. Floriculture is one
of the fastest growing sectors of the Zimbabwean economy with a 15%
increase in export sales in 2002.
The rose growing project employs 200 pickers.
