After the US$100 million
sale of his Casalee tobacco merchanting business to Universal Leaf
Tobacco Corp. Inc. in 1993, John Bredenkamp created a group of private
equity companies to trade and invest on a worldwide basis and in particular
in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Group invests in a wide range of sectors on a long-term basis
where it believes it can add or unlock value in many cases acting
as a source of development capital. The Group's entrepreneurial trading
activities are financed with its own capital and borrowings.
It manages its assets with a view to generating reasonable earnings
growth and capital appreciation, adding value through brand creation,
good management and financial discipline and by sound investment and
divestment strategies.
A small management team enables fast decisions to be taken.
